When you hear of one who is supposedly possessed by an evil entity, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Demons? “The Exorcist” movie? Candles and long, drawn out exorcisms?
If so, you wouldn’t be alone. These are likely among the most frequent images conjured up when thinking about possession. They are certainly among the more extreme examples of possession, to be sure.
However, it may not be as easy as we might think to recognize one who is possessed by an evil spirit. In fact, because of the Hollywood portrayal, we might be led to think that no one can be possessed unless the person acts in the Hollywood-approved fashion.
Not so, as we shall see.
